Retro Mechanical Labs 432k Rev2 Distortion

Hard to believe it’s been SIX YEARS since we had the pleasure of a pedal from Retro Mechanical Labs grace our presence, but this one definitely made up for lost time. The 432k Rev2 Distortion builds on the original version of the 432k, adding in some modifications to improve tone and give you more sonic options to experiment with. Beauty and brawn are once again combined into a big, gorgeous enclosure, complete with the classic VU meter that this great company is known for…

The 432k Rev2 Distortion has a a couple of different mods not on the normal version. A Sustain knob works much like the sustain on the Muff pedals, additional gain stage clipping for a smoother fuzz. Those mods can drastically change the tone and texture of the pedal. In addition to the mods, a different set of transistors is used to give the unit a slightly different sound than the regular 432k Distortion box.

The 432k Distortion box is all about signal routing. There’s one distortion circuit with an active hybrid diode/transistor ladder filter (with resonant feedback) for tone control, and another with a clean pass signal. Both signals are merged together and “glued” through a transistor drive and op amp style fuzz. This unit is also equipped with CV in for filter control, via modular gear, synth or CV pedal.

Other amenities here include true bypass switching, a low cut toggle switch, enhanced resonant feedback for more expressive tones and an op amp style fuzz at the end of the signal chain. We dive DEEP into the 432k Rev2 Distortion in our demo below, going through all of the switches and knobs and creating some incredible tones, so be sure to check that out. Don’t hesitate to head over to the Retro Mechanical Labs website, too, for more info on the pedals they create and how to order them. Cheers to Johnathan and all at RML on another wonderful creation – we have more on the way from them, so you won’t have to wait another 6 years, we promise – Stay Tuned!!
