Over the last several months, we’ve had the opportunity to get to know a relatively new company, Summer School Electronics, and explore their impressive lineup of effects. Ranging from boost (Bootster) to overdrive (Gladys) to fuzz (Stone Thrower) and delay (Snow Day), their pedals span multiple musical genres, providing something for everyone across the board. Today, we’ve got another effect of theirs for you, the Gus-Drive Boost Preamp Overdrive, which keeps the tradition of excellent pedal releases firmly in tact…
The Gus-Drive is actually the first pedal offering from Summer School Electronics, and is a modern take on a classic hard-clipping circuit. From a colorful boost to a bluesy, low-gain overdrive to a full sonic assault, this pedal is a versatile piece of any rig. With just two controls, Bark (volume) and Howl (gain), gorgeous tones can be dialed in quickly and efficiently. It also has a unique feature that rolls off low frequencies as the gain is increased, allowing your guitar to stand out in a band setting.
Cutting through with ease and boasting a wide range of tonal excellence, the Gus-Drive Boost Preamp Overdrive has a surprisingly broad spectrum of overdriven sounds for a seemingly simple 2-knob effect. Hand built in Syracuse, NY, each one of the pieces created by SSE is unique, yet they all share a similarity in design and high quality creation. Cheers to Mark and Summer School Electronics on another wonderful pedal – be sure to check out their website for more info on the Gus-Drive and all of their effects. And don’t forget to check out our demo below to hear this beast in action, cheers!
