A good one-knob pedal can surprise the best of us, and when it looks like today’s pedal, the Ground King FX Halo Fuzz, chances are it’s gonna rock your world. Utilizing a main knob and one lone switch, this distorted monster is LOUD, but has wonderful tonal qualities as well. This one comes to us all the way from Lappeenranta, Finland – let’s jump right in and see what’s under the hood here, shall we?
Taking the Colorsound one-knob fuzz schematic as a starting point, Ground King FX wanted to make a unique and more versatile fuzz unit. Keeping it easy to use, while making necessary adjustments internally, was the eventual goal, and the Halo Fuzz was born. The main knob in the center adjusts the Bias of the fuzz, and the simple switch on the left is a filter adjustment, allowing you to boost the Mid, Low or High frequencies to suit your individual needs. An internal trim pot also lets you adjust the overall output Volume of the pedal, set to Max as the default factory setting.
Other features include:
– Hand picked NOS transistors
– Unpainted aluminum enclosure with PCB faceplate
– Built with high quality components
– GØRVA Mechano 3PDT footswitch
– Lumberg or Neutrik jacks
– Top-mount jacks for easy board mounting
The Halo Fuzz looks mean, and, as it turns out, it sounds that way, too. However, it isn’t just a terrible noisemaker – the distorted tones here are bold and meaty, and the tone switch lets you adjust the sound to fit any rig. This is our first venture into the world of Ground King FX, and we can’t wait for more gear from these guys. Be sure to check out their website for more info, and if you like heavy fuzz, be sure to peruse our demo video below as well. Cheers!
