A lot of overdrive pedals come through the office here. A LOT. As fun as they can be, and as good as they can sound, we like it when the circuits get crazy and offer some options we haven’t seen before. Such is the case with today’s Limited Edition pedal, the Spiral Electric FX Yellow Spiral LF351 Overdrive. With a rare opamp and 3 different texture settings, this one sounds different from any other drive we’ve come across…
Focused around the tin-can LF351 opamp, this Yellow Spiral Drive keeps with the original version, offering “always on” tone sweetening, clean/dirty boosts, low-gain distortion and gorgeous amp-pushing capabilities. The three settings on the Texture Toggle give you a Silicon 1N914 Shottky Pair, straight LF351 and *secret part* options, for 3 unique and distinct tonal flavors. Cleaning up well with your guitar’s Volume knob, dod 250 and Micro Amp boost sounds are readily available to be explored.
As for the other main parameters, Gain controls the drive amount, while Output controls your volume level. The 6-way Girth switch gives you access to differing tonal settings via a rotary switch, retaining your highs while increasing the low-end “girth” with each turn of the knob. Extremely touch-sensitive, the Yellow Drive will go from chime to grind with a simple increase in pick attack.
This one was a monster from the minute we plugged it in, and it hasn’t slowed down yet. So much to explore with the rotary switch and toggle settings, and such a wide range of sounds to discover here. Not all that easy to find, if you run across a Spiral Electric FX Yellow Spiral LF351 Limited Edition Overdrive, you should probably just go ahead and grab it. Check out our demo below for more info, and to hear this bad boy in action – cheers!
