Vanilla Sundae Pedals Red Velvet Overdrive Distortion

There aren’t a ton of effects pedals coming out of a city I lived in for 8 years, Boise, Idaho, so I’m proud to represent and bring a hand made gem to the masses today. The Red Velvet Overdrive Distortion from Vanilla Sundae Pedals looks deceivingly simple at first glance, but this crimson beauty is hiding some real power under the hood. Part overdrive, part distortion and all balls-out dirt, this bright beauty tears equally through amps and eardrums…

Red Velvet is an overdrive/distortion built around a CMOS Hex Inverter. Plug it in and easily go from mild overdrive to thick, chewy, saturated distortion. This pedal responds beautifully to your instruments volume knob as well. Turn the Drive knob all the way up, and you can experiment with your instrument’s volume knob to control the amount of drive.

While not exact, this pedal is very similar to the Tube Sound Fuzz/Red Llama and, like these pedals, it has a rather low input impedance which can load the pickups. This is part of why the pedal sounds the way it does. With the Drive all the way down, the pedal is naturally rather bright and as you turn the drive up, the top end tends to fall behind. This makes the active Treble and Bass controls very handy for a circuit like this.

Coming at’cha using high quality components straight from the City of Trees, the Red Velvet Overdrive Distortion sounds great in front of or behind any other pedals, even with the lack of buffers on this circuit. Not just for guitar players, either, as it sounds excellent with bass. With simple controls, an eye-catching enclosure and a ton of tones on tap, you’re gonna love the way the Red Velvet integrates with your rig. Cheers to James and Vanilla Sundae Pedals – be sure to check out their website for more info and effects, and be sure to stop by our YouTube channel to hear this one roar into action. Cheers!
