Fuzz pedals come in many different shapes, sizes and configurations, each one producing its own brand of gnarly, amp-crushing distortion (to all of our delight). Today’s pedal, the Handy FX Whiteout Fuzz, is no different, utilizing a 4-knob control section to blast off through the fuzziest realms in all the land. And at an extremely affordable price point, there’s nothing not to love with this pristine-looking gem…
The Whiteout is a Fuzz Face circuit with BC-183 silicon transistors and a couple of twists. The voltage of the second transistor is adjustable with the external Bias knob, where you can use it to compensate for a weak battery, or to get a little spitty gated action. The input to the first transistor can be adjusted with the Pregain knob – turn it down to tame the fuzz, or keep it maxed for fuzzy fuzzy fuzz fuzz. The Volume and Fuzz controls round things out, doing exactly what you’d expect they’d do.
Hand wired in New Hampshire, Handy FX is a small company uses influences from all types of music to create their lineup of effects. The Whiteout Fuzz holds a myriad of sonic flavors in just four parameters, ranging from light distortion to face-melting crunchy explosions, and a lot of useful stuff in between. We’ve got more gear on the way from Handy FX, so stay tuned, but be sure to check out their website for more info on the Whiteout and the rest of their lineup. And don’t forget to check out how it sounds in our demo video below – cheers!
