Orange Amps Guitar Butler Dual Channel Guitar Preamp

We’ve been reviewing effects and amp pedals from our friends at Orange Amps for a number of years now, and are always excited to see what they’ve got in store for their next release. We’ve got the latest from them for you today, in the form of the Guitar Butler Dual Channel Guitar Preamp. This monster has been tailored to provide comprehensive, exceptional service to your signal chain, as a standalone unit or as part of a larger rig…

Two separate channels make up the meat & potatoes of the Guitar Butler: Clean and Dirty. The vintage-voiced, pedal-friendly Clean Channel makes it easy to put pedals up front, whilst the wide-ranging EQ allows for precise control, adding warmth to humbuckers and sparkle to single coils. The Treble, Middle and Bass knob control the range of treble, midrange and bass response, respectively, while Gain sets the gain level for the Clean Channel only.

The Dirty Channel, with its JFET circuitry, behaves like a valve amp, resulting in a classic overdrive channel without any digital distortion. Push the volume for a dynamic feel only usually found in valve rectifiers with dual footswitchable Volume controls (each with their own knob) to help you cut through the mix. Once again, the Treble, Middle and Bass knob control the range of treble, midrange and bass response, respectively, while Gain sets the gain level for the Dirty Channel only. A Presence parameter is also present, adding punch and shimmer to your tone, while controlling the extreme highs.

The connectivity on the Guitar Butler makes it a very versatile machine as well. Use the Amp output to connect directly to the front end of your guitar amp, or straight into a power amp. You can also use the balanced XLR out (with Cab Sim) to plug straight into a PA or DAW, for ultimate flexibility. There’s even a built-in FX Loop, too, which allows you to run your favorite effects pedals seamlessly in your signal chain, coming after the preamp.

A Ground Lift switch rounds things out, solving and ground loop issues you may encounter when connecting to more than one piece of grounded equipment. This unit is perfect for guitarists that are looking to get their preamp tones from their pedalboard, running straight into either a power amp/speaker cabinet combination or directly into a PA System. We love big, powerful effect like the Guitar Butler Dual Channel Guitar Preamp, and look forward to using it here in the studio on several upcoming projects. Cheers to the crew at Orange Amps on another brilliant creation – more info is available on their website, as well as in our extensive demo video below. Have a great weekend, everyone, cheers!
