As evidenced by the “Klone Wars” series on our YouTube channel, we love a good recreation of that famous mythical pedal that we (and most others) can no longer afford. Luckily, there are many companies building their incredible versions of this circuit, and we have another one for you today. The Studio Daydream Handmade Pedals KCM-OD Silver V10 has the look and feel of this type of pedal, and the sounds to match.
The control layout for the KCM-OD Silver V10 should look familiar, as Gain, Treble and Output are necessary in any klone of the original pedal. Through the proper use of carbon and metal film resistors, it also reproduces numerical resistance that can be normally difficult to obtain. Internally, it’s equipped with a 27V booster circuit utilizing a charge pump IC, and a careful selection of parts and construction of board design results in an extremely low noise finish.
Utilizing buffered bypass as well, the KCM-OD Silver V10 seeks to build a solid foundation for your tone, ranging from a gorgeous clean boost up to a low-mid gain overdrive when cranked up. Each of these klone-type effects are familiar, yet each possesses its own unique traits and nuances, which is part of what makes comparing them all so much fun. There’s a bolder version of the KCM-OD as well, the Gold V9.0, which we’ll be reviewing very soon – for now, though, enjoy our demo below, and be sure to head over to the Studio Daydream Handmade Pedals‘ website for more info on this and all of their gear!
