After diving into the immensely twisted VENA CAVA Filter last month, we were excited to see what the second pedal we received from Intensive Care Audio was going to bring to the table. Well, they did not disappoint, as the FIDELEATER v.1 Lo-Fi Chorus Vibrato Delay came charging out of the gates. This super-pedal not only mixes these effects genres together into a delicious auditory stew, but manages to create new effects as well, providing countless hours and days of entertainment and experimentation. Lots of knobs and switches on this one, let’s get into it!
The FIDELEATER is a lo-fi chorus/vibrato/delay pedal for the treatment of Bland Guitar Syndrome and Excessive Aural Dryness. It features two soft-touch footswitches: the left is BYPASS and the right is TAP TEMPO. WAVE FUNCTION is an 8-position rotary switch allows you to select 1 of 8 available LFO waveforms: Random Slopes, Random Steps, Sweep, Sine, Triangle, Square, Ramp Down or Ramp Up. FREQ sets the frequency (speed) of the LFO, while DEPTH sets the depth of the effect, providing serious glitching with certain settings above 12:00.
The DRY/WET knob sets the amount of dry signal which is mixed in with the effect. With the control fully counter-clockwise, the FIDELEATER operates as a chorus. Gradually turning this control clockwise removes the dry signal, leaving you with just the modulated signal, creating a vibrato effect. The CONTRACT switch opens or closes a feedback path within the delay path. When open, the repeats create a luscious warbling. The UNTIE switch extends the delay time so that the pedal operates something more like a delay than a chorus. The modulation is intensified because of this and creates another world of glitchy digital weirdness.
Used regularly, the FIDELEATER can provide effective relief from the aforementioned afflictions, and other music and instrumentation related conditions. Like all medicine, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Serious side effects may include involuntary time signature changes, nausea and or vomiting, anxiety, difficulty passing riffs, thinking you are better at your instrument than you actually are and looking down your nose at other peoples gear.
