The Harmonic Percolator. Is it a fuzz? Is it a distortion? Is it its own entity entirely? We’ve had the pleasure to check out a couple pedals based on the revered Interfax model, and we’ve got another for you today. The Malaise Forever Clubber Lang is a love letter to the original unit, with a couple of changes and additions to bring it into the modern world…let’s check it out!
The Clubber Lang features a MOSFET input stage to push some wild texture out of the circuit, as well as asymmetrical Germanium soft clipping, increased low end output, and a widely effective tone control. There’s a lot of interactivity between the two gain and tone controls, making this a wild and fun fuzz. Clubber Lang loves it when you switch your pick ups and play with your instrument’s tone control, loves input dynamics and it loves to stack with other dirt pedals.
Burn and Harm control the MOSFET gain stage and the fuzz stage gain, respectively, and there’s some excellent interaction between these two going on. The Tone sweep is wide, producing the perfect amount of low or high end for your rig, while Loud gives you complete control over the output volume. There’s even an internal trimmer that controls feedback resistance, or the stability of the output from the silicon transistor. This can increase the levels of parameter interactivity, or boost the volume, depending on how you want to use it.
With a great name and a ton of gorgeous, crushing sounds on tap, the Clubber Lang Harmonic Percolator Fuzz is a true force to be reckoned with. The addition of a couple controls make it a bit more experimental, while still honoring one of the most unique effects units ever created. Basically, we’re in love with this thing, and can’t wait to see what the Malaise Forever crew comes up with next.
