Volume and Gain are the heart of the G3, as with most drives, and do their jobs perfectly. There’s plenty of output on tap, and the range in the Gain control goes from slight boost to dirty and gritty when maxed out. The 3-band EQ is always welcome, with Bass, Middle and Treble parameters on hand to dial in your perfect tone. The smart filtering circuitry keeps the lows tight and the high end present, with no low end muddiness or shrill highs.
Three different Aggression modes are available as well, which help shape the voice and saturation of your tone. The gain is low and smooth with this switch in the Off position; switch up to the Blue mode, and the gain is transformed, becoming tight and defined. Switch down to the Red mode, and the gain morphs once more, into a thicker and more saturated sound. Metal fans and players will love the range here, but this pedal isn’t just for the heavy metal heroes – there are a ton of useable options for players of all genres.
Gentle and beautiful, yet biting and distorted in the best of ways, the G3 Overdrive Distortion covers so much musical ground, you’ll be blown away. Metal, classic rock, fusion and more are easily achievable here, without much coaxing or time spent. Toss it in front of your favorite amp, in an effects loop, before a modeling processor or direct into a cabinet modeler – this thing sounds fantastic anywhere you need to use it. Cheers to our friends at Revv Amplification on bringing the attack and bloom of notes to the forefront – this one had over 16 circuit revisions before its release, and that effort has clearly paid off.
