Hotone Audio Ampero Control MIDI Commander

Admittedly, MIDI is not one of the things that comes easy to us. The way the messages work, the CCs and the PCs and the whatnot, have always been a bit confusing. Today’s pedal features a user-friendly interface, along with a straightforward phone app, to take all the guess work out of the complexity that is MIDI. The Hotone Audio Ampero Control MIDI Commander is a fully programmable Bluetooth MIDI controller, one that took only a few minutes to understand.

The Ampero Control is easy to pair up with your phone, and the app used to connect and route everything is extremely intuitive. Once your pedal is hooked up, you can program each of the footswitches on Ampero Control to send up to 16 different MIDI messages (PC, CC, Note On/Off, etc.) by different actions. This leads to controlling presets, turning different effects on or off on your multi-FXs, start/stop a looper and more. Each footswitch offers 4 modes, too: Single, Toggle, Momentary and Hold, for a variety of needs and uses.

Press the two left or right footswitches simultaneously to scroll through the 100 banks available, each one of which includes 4 footswitch settings, 2 CTRL/EXP jack settings and more. Speaking of that, the 2 CTRL/EXP jacks let you hook up other external devices to further customize how Ampero Control fits into your rig. You can even send messages from your computer to Ampero Control via USB if the mood should strike you.

As with all MIDI-related gear, there’s a learning curve here, but this was the easiest MIDI device we’ve ever had to figure out, hands down. Select your footswitch, choose what you want it to do, assign it, save it and you’re done. With this many options for control, even the fanciest and most complex of rigs will be able to do exactly what you want it to, simply and efficiently. Congrats to Hotone Audio on making this very accessible to those of us not completely comfortable with MIDI – gear like this goes a long way to changing that.
