We’ve loved the couple of pedals from Bad Penny FX we’ve had the chance to demo, and today’s effect keeps that tradition going strong. The Fuzz Controller (the first handmade unit from Bad Penny) is inspired by classic British design, but is a modern, dynamic fuzz circuit as well. Lots of controls and switches on this one, let’s dive right on in…
The internal circuit of The Fuzz Controller utilizes NOS tone-shaping capacitors, along with a bevy of switches and knobs for further sculpting your sound. Gain sets your distortion output, while Master controls your Output Volume. The switches are where things start to get fun here, starting with Starve, which reduces volume and causes breakup by starving the circuit of power. Diode toggles between LED and Silicon diodes, and Bass and Treble are both frequency cutters, crushing the lowest and highest ranges, respectively.
The Fuzz Controller starts out low-bodied, with a lightly driven purr, but can come alive and produce an earth-shattering roar if you so desire. We’ve always loved the looks of the units from Bad Penny FX, and the sounds they produce are top notch as well. For a little taster of what this one can do, be sure to peruse our demo video below (and subscribe to our channel!). There’s more info and more pedals on the Bad Penny FX website, too, be sure to head over there, too!
