Vintage Fuzz. Plug in, turn it up and rock. Done and Done. Today’s pedal achieves exactly these checkpoints, bringing a warm and classic sound into the fold. The Bad Penny FX Wireless Germanium Fuzz has a simple control section, but adds in a couple of tasty options to really dial in and solidify your favorite fuzz tones. Let’s see what this one brings to the table, shall we?
A classic unit that follows the Tone Bender MkIII circuit structure, the Wireless is highly responsive to your input signal strength. It uses three NOS, PNP, NKT275 equivalent germanium transistors, selected for their gain structure, balanced by ear with internal trim potentiometers. Fuzz, Tone and Master (Volume) make up the beef of the control section, but the Wireless has more in store as well.
The Gate switch allows for full or partial signal passing between the transistors, producing natural amp breakup. This one can be adjusted via an internal trimpot as well. There’s a Bass switch, too, which reduces the lowest frequencies from your signal if you need. Using these two in conjunction with the three main knobs gives you complete control over the fuzz sound, enabling it to fit in perfect with any rig.
The Wireless Germanium Fuzz comes in the classic Bad Penny FX English Ash Hardwood and aluminum case, an awesome signature look for their lineup. Using Neutrik mono jacksockets and high quality foot and finger switches, these things are built like tanks, and look just beautiful in person. Not to mention it sounds just incredible – hear us run through the controls and sounds in our demo videos below.
