There are certain pedal companies whose new releases captivate and astonish consistently, and one of those is GFI System. At the forefront of modern design and flexibility, we’ve seen some incredible machines from their lineup, including the Specular Tempus, the Clockwork Delay line and more. Well, they’ve done it to us once again, this time with a dual release: here are the Orca Delay and Skylar Reverb.
These two pedals are similar in design, layout and functionality, and they even work well together in a sonic realm. With each packing 4 quintessential GFI algorithms into their slick-looking enclosures, they feature many of the same attributes and options under the hood. Mono and Stereo inputs and outputs, an intuitive user interface, multi-purpose external jack for expression or tap tempo use and 2 presets are some shared points of interest for these ambient beauties.
The Orca Delay’s algorithms are Digital, Tape, Diffuse and Ambiental, while the Skylar Reverb has Spatium, Shimmer, Plate and Tremble for you to choose from. Cramming more flexibility into their pedals once more, each knob on these two GFI devices has multiple uses and functions – you can Turn, Push, Hold and Twist each one to perform a multitude of operations, such as adjusting parameters, toggle expression mapping, secondary parameter control, entering Options and Global menus and more.
The Secondary controls let you fine tune and experiment with your sound even more, offering adjustment to Lows, Highs, Predelay, Trem Depth, Wow, Flutter, Mod Depth, Decay and many, many more. As with all GFI System effects, there’s a lot to explore in both of these pedals, as they have once again packed in so many wonderful ways to discover and create new and glorious sounds using these 2 new devices.
In our demo below, we run through some functionality, but we’re mainly focused on the delay and reverb SOUNDS available here – grab your headphones and settle in, this is a good one. With so many choices and possibilities, it’s safe to say that the GFI System Orca Delay and Skylar Reverb are going to be near the top of must-have pedals for a while, as they rightfully should be. Check out their website for a more in-depth look at both of these effects, and see what you can create….
