We recently had a chance to sit down with the new Obsidiana, a wonderful Octave Layering Engine from our friends at Paradox Effects, and couldn’t have been happier. So when they sent a couple more pedals for us to check out, we were stoked to see what other wonders they had created. Taking a left turn from the ambience of the Obsidiana, the Terran Re-Voicing Overdrive takes dirt pedals and gives them a makeover, resulting in one of the more unique overdrives we’ve come across, as of late.
The Terran is a mid/high gain Overdrive with a parametric equalizer, that was inspired by the legendary Ampeg V4. This Re-Voicing drive can change the resonant qualities of your tone, emulating different types of guitar pick-ups and tube amp voices. An active Midrange filter with Gain, Resonance (Q) and selectable bandwidth (700Hz, 1kHz,1.5kHz), Terran opens the sonic possibilities to an ocean of textures. You can use it as a pre-amp to re-voice your tone, to accentuate a specific frequency spectrum to emphasize your instrument’s expression, or making your humbuckers sound like single coils. In short, the Terran is much more than a conventional dirt pedal.
You can put it at the beginning of your pedal chain to re-voice your guitar pick-ups, after a fuzz or distortion to have a better articulated equalization, or as a pre-amp for your tube amplifier to change the overall voice of your tone. The possibilities are vast here, making for a more exploratory device than most drive effects are known for, and we welcome it wholeheartedly. Our demo below digs deep into the sounds and tones of the Terran Re-Voicing Overdrive, and there’s more info over on the Paradox Effects website as well. More to come from these guys, so keep and eye/ear out, and we’ll see you again soon!
