Single knob fuzz pedals sometimes get overlooked for fancier effects units with more knobs and switches and bells and whistles, right? Well, today’s pedal takes all of those myths and tosses them directly into the proverbial trash can, giving the user a wide range of sounds, volumes and, most importantly, fuzzes. The brilliantly named Fat Guy Little Coat (if you don’t know the reference, please educate yourself STAT) Fuzz from Thirty7 FX is small, but like the actor it references, is about as big and bold as it gets.
Based on the old school Colorsound Fuzz Box circuit, the Fat Guy Little Coat Fuzz features a TON of versatility. A BC108/109 silicon fuzz, it starts off slow and low, with both the Volume and Fuzz in the low-gain area at lower levels. Like most single knob effects, as you slowly turn the lone dial clockwise, everything begins to increase in intensity and excitement. There’s no shortage of output level here, and as that goes up, so does the fuzzy goodness you’re after.
The PCB design work for this fuzzy gem was done by Alex from Coppersound Pedals, and the quality absolutely shines through. Sometimes, you don’t need a pedal with a phone book manual to create incredible fuzz tones, and the Thirty7 FX Fat Guy Little Coat Fuzz is a prime example of that. Our demo below shows off how this fuzz can sound at different stages in the range of its one knob, so if you want to feel the power from this beast, check it out below. Also, Thirty7 FX has just launched their new website, so be sure to head over and check that out as well! Cheers!
