We’ve long been admirers of Robert Keeley and all things Keeley Electronics, and they have been huge supporters of us almost since Pedal of the Day began. We love it when new inventions of theirs arrive on our doorstep to explore, and today’s genius piece of electronic wizardry is no different. The Loomer Fuzz Reverb is just that, a fuzz and reverb in one enclosure…however, that’s about where the similarities to most pedals in these two genres cease to exist. A whole lotta shoegaze-y fun inside this guy, and down the rabbit hole we goooooo…..
The Fuzz side is a HUGE fuzz machine, with the semi-standard Level, Fuzz and Filter (Tone) controls…but wait!! There’s toggle switch hiding in there as well, giving you three different fuzz voicing options: Flat, Full or Scoop, for a variety of fuzzy flavorings. The distortion produced is reminiscent of a Big Muff-type sound, perfectly setting you up for shoegaze-ish bliss.
Kick on the Reverb side, and three gloriously perfect reverb styles await all who dare tame them. Warmth acts as a tone control, while Depth controls the pitch or modulation depth in all modes. Decay works differently in all modes, adjusting decay time AND feedback, depending on the mode. Hall is ambient with an octave feedback loop, while Reverse is based on the Yamaha SPX90 and the Alesis Midiverb II units from the 80’s and 90’s. The Decay control here has 8 “decay time” settings (150ms, 200ms, 250ms, 300ms, 350ms, 400ms, 450ms, and 500ms) in which the reverb comes back to you at different times. Focus is a dense reverb that uses 2 delays in parallel (one set for 250ms, one for 380ms).
Fuzz and Reverb are definitely both present in the Loomer, but there are also aspects of Delay, Modulation, Pitch Bending and more, making this one an experimenter’s dream machine. Like Keeley says, “A stoned, morning floaty, messed up, thrill machine is what it is. Washes of reverb in new ways you’ve not heard in a stomp box before and a fuzz that’s like a cigarette burn on your forearm. It rages.” We must whole-heartedly agree. More details are available throughout our demo video located below, as well as on the Keeley Electronics website. The Loomer Fuzz Reverb combines two of our favorite effects into one box, but in a unique and innovative way that only comes from the mind of Robert Keeley himself. Have a wonderful holiday, everyone, and a great end to a really odd year!
