Fjord Fuzz is a pedal company out of Norway, and they are making some incredible effects right now. A couple months ago, we got to check out the BJØRN Dual Octave Fuzz of theirs, and were completely blown away. Today, we’ve got another wild one for you from them, the BIFROST, a fuzz and delay mix that will send you clear into outer space. Using expression pedals and dialing in the right amount of fuzz, this is a fun one…
The key to this pedal is the small 1/4″ jack on the bottom (not the usual placement, and we love it). Here is where you plug in your Expression pedal to control the delay time, but not just any ordinary one: it has to have a range of 50k-100k ohm. This range lets you open up the delay’s full spectrum, going all the way up to 1300ms! The 100k ohm also lets you overclock the delay chip, for sweet, broken, dirty delay at those slowed-down times.
Since the Delay Time knob (labeled X) is disabled when the expression jack is in use, let’s check out the rest of the parameters on the BIFROST. The dB knob sets your overall output level, while the raygun/blaster knob controls the amount of gain/fuzz the effect produces. The knob with the balance scales icon mixes your wet and dry signals together to taste as well.
The 2 recycling/arrows knobs control two separate feedback controls, which are also switchable by the lower left footswitch. This allows you to set two different feedback settings and toggle between them at a moment’s notice. For a pedal like this, that is an invaluable option to have, and it comes in very handy when creating large, layered soundscapes. There’s a limiter on the feedback, too, letting you set those controls to the maximum without over-saturating and hurting your amplifier.
There’s even an internal push button that lets you bypass the fuzz/preamp, giving you a straight up wicked delay with flexible time capabilities. The BIFROST is not like any other effect we’ve come across, and we love when something new and special arrives on our doorstep. If you all don’t know about Fjord Fuzz yet, you need to get on it.
