Today’s glorious funk-inspired pedal comes to us from our northern pals Dr. Scientist, in the form of the Dusk Multi Mode Low Pass Filter. This digital/analog hybrid encompasses everything you know and love about envelope filters, adding in a bunch of features and options to make it easily customizable to fit your setup.
Dusk is a digitally controlled analog 12dB/Octave low pass filter, based around an Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) circuit, producing excellent audio quality and a deep filter sound. With 3 filter Modes (CUT, ENV and LFO) and 6 LFO waveforms, there’s a lot to choose from. While analog in tone and feel, the digital part gives us such modern conveniences as filter setting, tap tempo, MIDI and more.
The Multi stomp switch provides a different outcome when used with each of the three filter modes, freezing, sweeping and ramping to your heart’s content. The Bypass stomp, meanwhile, engages the effect, but also loads and scrolls through the 4 on board presets you have at your disposal. You can control all of Dusk’s digital features via 5-pin DIN MIDI, using standard CC and PC messages, and external expression/CV functionality is available via a side 1/4″ jack as well.
If anyone was on Fall ’97 Phish tour, this pedal sounds just like that (even threw in some tasty Trey-inspired licks in the demo video). If not, don’t worry, you’re gonna love it anyway.
