We’ve had lots of preamp pedals coming through the shop lately, and we honestly couldn’t be happier. Preamps take everything you love about your rig and amplify it, pushing it to whatever the sweet spot is that you find, as sort of a final piece to the puzzle for any pedalboard or setup. Today’s pedal is useful on both guitar and bass, so we decided to make demos with each instrument, and show what the Sunnaudio NU-1 Nucleus Preamp is truly capable of.
The Nucleus™ NU-1 is a versatile Hi Gain and Hi Output Dual Boost Preamp with Distortion & Overdrive that offers infinite tonal settings for many instruments. Crafted for electric and bass guitars, it can also can be used with most passive or active acoustic guitars pickups. The switchable Hi and Lo-Gain modes give you access to two unique tones, and the big Gain knob makes it a cinch to adjust your distortion level on the fly.
Here are some specs:
– Multi instrument Preamp and Distortion with two gain channels, Independent Volumes, two simple and effective tone controls offering mid and low end tone shaping
– One deceptively sophisticated Gain knob, pure clean to overdrive
– Two switchable channels: HI Gain and LO Gain which can be independently set for level output. Each channels gets its own LED knob indicating which channel is selected
– LO gain setting ranges from crystal clear to overdrive while HI gain starts with rich clean harmonic sounds to full distortion.
– “Focus” adjusts the sub-harmonic frequencies to your bass signal, or to contour your over driven guitar sound
– “Tone” for mid shaping the overdrives
– Internal input impedance switch for optimum matching
– Two foot switches: Hi/Lo Gain & True Bypass
– External DC Jack or 9v battery power (>80 hr typ. life)
– Pure analog circuitry: varying the external DC jack voltage (7.5V – 12Vdc max) will alter the harmonic characteristics of the Nucleus
When it comes down to it, this thing just rips. Having the Tone and Ficus controls, along with the differing levels of Gain, really open up the sonic possibilities here, on both instruments.
