What’s the one pedal that everyone should probably have on their board, but one that gets often overlooked for something fancier that makes wacky noises? BOOST. THat’s right, friends, a BOOST pedal. When used correctly, it just enhances everything around it, giving you a more solid core tone to use other pedals with. Today’s featured effect is a boost, but it’s also a DOUBLE channel pedal, and maybe it’s also a little bit gritty. And dirty. And will crush the front end of your amp….it’s the Bad Penny FX Smoothflow Twin Stage Booster!!
More than just a boost pedal, the Smoothflow is a dual dynamic boost that offers you two separate channels of boosting potential, each with its own input signal switch (turning either, both, or none of the stages into treble boosts), Gain and Master volume controls. As with all of Bad Penny FX pedals, the Gain controls of the Smoothflow allow you to go from zero to a million, from a nice warm and un-obnoxious clean boost to crispy, gated, all-out destruction. High-quality components include NOS caps, Neutrik jacks, 22awg cloth wiring and true-bypass switching.
Our favorites here are the toggle switches: Clean reduces the input volume to the circuit, Thick is a bass cut that results in a brighter sound and Full acts as another bass cut to the 2nd stage. These interactive switches make for a variety of sonic flavors, letting you dial in exactly what it need for your particular rig. Get your rig sounding just right with Stage One, then kick on Stage Two to drive home a solo or lead run with ease.
This is our first foray into the world of Bad Penny FX, and we can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store for us. Be sure to check out our demo video below to hear the Smoothflow Twin Stage Booster in action, and head over to the Bad Penny FX website for more info and more pedals!!
