A good overdrive can put an instant smile on your face, as soon as you click that bypass switch. Your amp comes alive, you’re most definitely a better player all of a sudden and the teenage goal of becoming a full-fledged rock star doesn’t seem so far off. We got those kinds of feelings plugging into today’s pedal, the TEFI Vintage Lab Maccheroni Bros MKII Overdrive. A dual channel dirt pedal, this one will cover a LOT of your needs with ease…
The 2 channels on the Maccheroni Bros are named “Fred” and “Mike”. Each boasts separate Volume and Gain controls, and are selectable by the right-hand footswitch. They also share a Contour knob, which helps to shape the tone of each side. By regulating the general tone balance over a wide frequency range, you can get either warmer sounds to balance out trebly amps, or brighter tones with more presence and bass response.
“Fred” is based on TEFI Vintage Lab’s proprietary PCN circuit, and will easily go from quasi-clean boost to creamy, sustained and dynamic overdrive. You can turn down the crunch just by using your guitar’s volume as well! “Mike” is based on a JFET stage, for a slew of more hard rock-types of sounds. A bit brighter and angrier than his counterpart, here you get more saturation and sustain, without losing any dynamics. Both sides drive a tube amp beautifully, and the basic controls let you easily conjure up some killer settings.
Designed to give players a wide variety of modern American-type overdrive sounds, the Maccheroni Bros MKII Overdrive gives you 2 channels of incredible dirt to explore. Fitting onto the boards of both beginners and professionals alike, this one could be your one-stop-shop for all your overdrive needs. Cheers to the crew at TEFI Vintage Lab on a wonderful creative creation – can’t wait to check out some more of their gear.
