Pladask Elektrisk Tåken Asynchronous Delay

So far, we’ve had the pleasure of checking out the Fabrikat and the Draume pedals from the crew at Pladask Elektrisk. Full of inspiring character and bold sonic statements, these pedals are a real revolution in the effects world. That’s why we had to have more, and that’s why we’ve got another one for you today. The Tåken is an asynchronous dual-head delay with random modulation and a powerful send/receive-loop. Basically, it’s a machine that you can get lost in for hours on end. We’re deep-diving today, folks, in we go……

This new version of Tåken retains the same circuit as the original, but features internal switches to add more filter resonance and high-pass filtering. Time and Head work together to set the delay time, using two ‘tape’ heads for textured and artifact-filled echoes. The ranges for the heads are ~40/100ms to ~1000/2400ms – plenty for all your delay needs. There’s a Mod knob as well, which lets you add a sense of movement to your repeats via delay modulation, for a worn tape-like feel.

Feed controls your feedback levels, and this one will get away from you QUICK, so you gotta stay on your toes! There’s even an internal trimmer for you to adjust the overall range of the feedback. The Tone control sets the cutoff frequency of an active low-pass filter, which affects only the delay signal. Finally, the Mix knob has different functions depending on which mode you select. In “R” mode (REPEATS), it sets the blend between the Clean and Delay signals. But then it gets fun…

Switch over to “D” mode (DIRECT), plug some of your other favorite effects into the Send/Return loop and prepare for blast off. In this mode, Mix adds in the external effects to both the delay repeats and the direct sound. “Ø” mode (INVERTED) works the same way, but inverts the direct sound affected by the effects loop. The effects in the loop are generated with each new repeat, opening up even more sonic possibilities. Finally, the Vol knob is a master output volume, ranging from silence to +10dB.

A tool for conjuring psychedelia and nostalgia sparingly or in excess. Tåken‘s arrhythmic functions offer a surprisingly musical way to break up a traditional delays linear, predictable behavior. The insert loop expands upon this by allowing integration and regeneration of external effect pedals, so have fun experimenting! Cheers to Knut and all at Pladask Elektrisk – we just can’t get enough of their pedals, and can’t wait to see what the next one will bring us.
