Pladask Elektrisk Fabrikat Granular Synthesizer

If you’re not privy to the world of effects created by Pladask Elektrisk in Norway, you are really missing out. We got to check out their incredible Draume Artificial Reverb pedal recently, and it blew our minds with ease. An ambient player’s dream lineup, these pedals take everything you think you know about reverb, delay, sampling and more, and turn it completely upside down. Experimentation is key, and you better mark the different settings you find down in a notebook, ’cause you just might not be able to find your way back otherwise. Today, we’re honored to look at the Pladask Elektrisk Fabrikat Granular Synthesizer, a wild and extremely innovative pedal that feels like you’re using an entirely new instrument to create your chaos and bliss. Here we go….

Creating synthetic ambience, sonic deconstruction and spectral choirs, the Fabrikat is a 100% inorganic, experimental multi-effects processor. Using 16 different algorithms that are focused on granular synthesis and modified sample playback, you get elements of reverb, delay octave, ring mod, pitch shifting and more, all wrapped up in a box filled with options and more sounds than you could ever want. The algorithms are separated into 2 banks of 8 each, so you can easily identify where you are at any given time via the main middle selector. If you need a little boost, the VOL knob gives you up to +16dB of boost as well.

Speaking of algorithms, each one has its own set of individual controls via the P1 & P2 knobs. These set different parameter settings depending on which algorithm you’re currently in, ranging from grain size to pitch shift to time stretching speed to freeze/scrub and many, many more. Use the P1/P2 toggle to select which knob you’d like to be abler to control via an external expression pedal for more hands-free musical creation. The EQ and FEEDBACK knobs interact with one another, too, giving you lo/hi frequency emphasis and re-synthesis feedback across the DSP and EQ, respectively.

Another fun aspect of the Fabrikat is the LOOP functionality. All of the algorithms store audio in a memory buffer, which is played back in a manipulated manner unique to the specific algorithm. The LOOP function decides whether new audio will be recorded, how long it will remain in the buffer and if the DSP will output audio. There are 5 different settings within the LOOP knob to select from, and engaging the loop toggle switch overrides the knob, allowing you to swap between different loop settings on the fly. Really fun stuff right here, folks.

As with all pedals of this nature, you gotta hear it to believe it, and luckily you’re in the right place. We have created a full demo of the Pladask Elektrisk Fabrikat for you below, running through some of our favorite algorithms, settings and functionality of this amazing pedal. You know, effects like these are not for everyone, but we absolutely love ’em, and cannot wait for the next one to see what sonic adventures await. Cheers to the Pladask crew on another gorgeous creation – sign up on their website to be notified of new pedal release dates and times, and give them a follow on your favorite social media accounts as well. Cheers, all, have a great weekend and stay safe out there!!
