Danelectro Back Talk™ Reverse Delay

There are some pedals that you always want to test out and see if the hype surrounding them is real, but for one reason or another, it just doesn’t happen. In the case of the Danelectro Back Talk™ Reverse Delay, the reason is MONEY, as the original pedals released in 1999 fetch upwards of $500. Thankfully, Danelectro has put this gem of an effect into its Vintage Pedals lineup, releasing a modern version for everyone who can’t afford an original. This thing is so unique and sounds so so good, we were wicked stoked to finally be able to check it out….and let us tell you, it did NOT disappoint…

Creating warm, organic, violin and organ-like tones, the Back Talk™ Reverse Delay is in a class all its own. This reissue uses the same internal circuit and chip as the 90’s version, and comes housed in a wear-and-tear enclosure that goes along with their entire Vintage lineup (see our reviews for The Breakdown and The Eisenhower). The Mix, Speed and Repeats controls are easy to use, but hold a TON of options and eons of exploration inside. The rich, tape-like character is second to none, re-creating that special sonic magic that the original is so sought-after for.

With up to one full second of delay time, along with swirling, psychedelic tape simulation, the Danelectro Back Talk™ Reverse Delay is truly a pedal to behold. Not necessarily a pedal for every song, or even close to an “always-on” effect, it has its purpose, and it excels at what it does like no other pedal we know of. Turn on, tune in, drop out, indeed: this little green beauty is your time machine transport back to the true heyday of counterculture and musical experimentation.
