Caline CP-84 Honeycomb Tone Overdrive

In today’s world of boutique (and expensive) pedals, budget gear can get overlooked or tossed aside for one reason or another. While there are some pedals that aren’t the most well-designed or built, the effects we’ve seen from Caline are as solid as they come, and at a price that truly can’t be beat. The Caline CP-84 Honeycomb Tone Overdrive continues this tradition, combining thrifty shopping with excellent amp-driving power, with useful tones and nice construction.

The CP-84 Honeycomb doesn’t have a lot in the control department, but if you’re looking for a nice drive to push a tube amp or beef up some thin pickups, it’s a great choice. Based around the Sweet Spot Overdrive from Keeley Electronics, there are three simple knobs to use as you shape your sound. Volume adjusts the output, Tone boost or cuts the highs and lows and Honey controls the amount of gain present. As with most three-knob overdrive pedals, there’s a wide range of sounds to be discovered throughout the different setting combinations these parameters have to offer, and they all appeal to us in the auditory department.

Simple, priced well and sounding great, the Caline CP-84 Honeycomb Tone Overdrive leaves the flash and pizzaz to the more pricey pedals, and gives you a stripped-down powerhouse (that looks pretty rad on your board, too). Check out our reviews of more Caline pedals here, and check out the Honeycomb in action in our demo below. More Caline gear on the way, too, so stay tuned!
