Multi-Effects pedals have really come a long way in the last 5 or so years, and the new stuff coming out just keeps getting better and more impressive. One of the newer ones is the unit we’re looking at today, the Poly Effects Digit Quad Delay Reverb. This crazy, wild and innovative box also boasts Filters, Cab Sims, Mixers, LFOs and Envelope Follower functionality, among others. An ambient creator’s dream pedal, it’s got a bit of a learning curve, but once you dig in, you’re not going to want to dig out.
The core of the Digit is its wildly interactive touch screen, which performs the majority of the pedal’s functionality. Basically, you select from a list of effects building blocks, arrange and connect them how you want and then dive in to fine tune their parameters as needed. The two knobs up top change the selected value inside each block, with the Right knob changing the value a lot (Coarse) and the Left knob (Fine) used for fine-tuning and changing the value a little bit. The Left and Middle switches on the bottom of the pedal are assignable based on the block you are using, and assist with tap tempo, momentarily taking effects out of the chain and more.
The modules themselves host a TON of different effects: Auto Swell, Reverb (Mono/Stereo), numerous Delays, Filters, Tremolo, Cab Sims and many, many more. The Digit comes loaded with a nice long list of presets, but when turned on, it’s in the Default Preset mode, letting you jump right in and start building some killer effects. There are Stereo Inputs and 4 total Outputs, MIDI Input & Output on TRS (2 X 5pin DIN adapters included, nice touch there), built-in cabinet IRs and up to 3 effects loops, to name a couple of Digit’s stunning amenities.
Although it takes a minute to figure out how everything runs and works together, and how to use the routing capabilities, once you get the hang of it, you’re flying around the 5″ touch screen at lightning speeds. The Poly Effects Digit Quad Delay Reverb is that, yes, but it can also be much, much more, and an invaluable weapon to veteran players, experimenters and pedals geeks alike. We’re digging in to some of our favorite presets, and some of Digit’s functionality, in the demo below, so be sure to toss on your headphones (it’s in Stereo, after all) give a listen. Check out the Poly Effects website for much more information – congrats, guys, on a job well done!
