The sheer force of impact that Joel and the Chase Bliss crew have had on the musical world over the last 7 years really says something to their creativity and innovation. They keep the train that brought us the Tonal Recall, Thermae, MOOD, Dark World, Generation Loss and more a-rollin’ with their latest endeavor, the Chase Bliss Audio Blooper Looper. With the signature CBA tech stamp firmly planted on it, this baby blue wonder has taken looping and turned it upside down, sideways, backwards and beyond. Boy, this was a fun one…
Pedals like these are sometimes difficult to explain using words, and Blooper is no different, but we’ll run through the controls and some of the options it holds inside. There are three main modes: Normal, Additive and Sampler. Volume gives you unity volume at noon, and is boosted to about 2x when cranked to the max. This knob, as with all CBA pedals, will also control the other parameters when the dipswitches up top are engaged. Layers might be the greatest looper pedal addition EVER, as it lets you turn on and off your different recorded layers just by turning the knob.
The Repeats knob works to let your layers gradually fade away, at a speed of your choosing. You must be recording for this to work, however, as you can’t add this functionality in once the loop is in playback. There are 2 channels of Modifiers in Blooper as well, and here’s where the fun really starts. Activated by push buttons on the bottom of the pedal, there is Mod A and Mod B, which each control 3 different modifiers. For Mod A, you’ve got Smooth Speed, Dropper and Trimmer; Mod B boasts Stepped Speed, Scrambler and Filter selections. These all add in different functions to your loop, creating entire new sonic worlds and experimental music we’ve not found anywhere else.
In addition, there’s the Stability knob, which introduces aspects of Wow & Flutter, Noise, Filtering and more for an analog, vintage-type feel to your loops. Blooper will also save up to 16 loops, each with their layers intact, for easy recalling and recording capabilities. There’s MIDI connectivity, of course, as well as a CV / Expression jack for further exploration. There’s even an Ext. function, where you can control the Left switch with any normally-open momentary switch, for an added layer of hands-free fun.
Now, we know that a pedal like this is not going to be used by everyone the same way, nor should it be. That said, our demo below showcases a couple of different ways to use Blooper, let you see how each mode can work and highlight some our favorite modifier-induced loops. Using some outside pedals and even a drum machine, we’ll try and take you on a mystical looping journey that will inspire and mystify everyone watching. Our largest hats go off to Joel and the crew for the incredible Chase Bliss Audio Blooper Looper – can’t wait to see what you all create with this marvelous machine!

Fantastic and very thorough demonstration of some of what can be done with this “pedal”. It feels like Christmas every morning when I get to go turn it on and tune into its magic. Thank you…
