Demedash Effects T-120 Videotape Echo

Once again, we’ve got another fantastic Delay/Echo pedal for you today. The Demedash Effects T-120 Videotape Echo is a delay, yes, but one that emulates a sound not super-standard in the world of pedals. Seeking to re-create the sound of a worn out VHS videotape, this little aluminum (Limited Edition) box sounds worn-out, wobbly, garbled, faded and beat-down, and that’s just what we like from a delay like this.

When you plug into the T-120 and activate the effect, the recorded playback will be “the sound of low bandwidth tape being fed haphazardly through a magnetic read head by an uncalibrated, unbalanced feed mechanism.” What’s that, you say? Basically, the echos carry with them a warm, vintage, analog sound, and the level of intensity can be adjusted by the parameter controls. The top row of knobs features Time (the duration of time before each recorded note is played back, with a maximum of 1.5 seconds), Echo (mixes your Wet & Dry signals, with unity at noon) and Intensity, which sets the number of re-recordings of each echo. Crank this one up, and you’re swimming in the glory of wicked self-oscillation.

The bottom row of knobs contains Depth (amount of pitch-shifting vibrato induced in the recorded signal), Speed (rate of the pitch-shifted vibrato) and Tape Quality. This knob raises or lowers the bandwidth of the recording, providing more signal degradation on the echoes at lower settings. There are 2 LEDs present as well, one which indicates the T-120 is active, and one that flashes in unison with the current Speed setting, so you always know how fast you’re flying.

The Demedash Effects T-120 Videotape Echo is hand-built, one at a time, using quality components, so that may be why the wait list time constantly hovers around a year or so. There have been small batches being released periodically on Reverb.com, so be sure to follow Demedash Effects on social media to see when and where you can snag one for yourself. Anticipating your pedal’s arrival, but not sure what to expect? Then check out our demo video below, as we journey through a Blockbuster Video-fueled trip down memory lane, to a time (and place) unfortunately long gone…

Update: we got our hands on a T-120 Deluxe 1.5, and it sounds sweeeet….has a couple more options available, while retaining that classic T-120 sound – check out our demo below:
