Beetronics Fatbee Babee Series Overdrive

Not to brag, but we knew about Beetronics FX before most of the rest world did. Back in 2015, we reviewed their first pedal, the Boos-tah Preamp, and have been fortunate to have more of their pedals come through the shop in the time since. After the success of the Overhive, Whoctahell, Royal Jelly and more, today we’ve got a small, simple and powerful little pedal, the first in their Babee Series. The Fatbee is hiding a lot of tones and dirt inside its tiny shell – let’s see what it can do.

As you’ll notice, the Fatbee has a super-simple control section. The circuit is an all-original design, created in conjunction with legendary pedal designer Howard Davis. Weight (Volume), Flavor (Tone) and Honey (Gain) make up the parameters, and are placed up top on the pedal, instead of traditionally on the face, to ensure they don’t get kicked or knocked around during your wild weekend set at the local watering hole. As far as toanz are concerned, the Fatbee will do a beautiful clean boost, a slight/transparent-ish overdrive, a crunchy, dirty overdrive and, when cranked, a powerful dirt sound that borders on distortion.

The Beetronics Fatbee Babee Series Overdrive will squeeze nicely onto any pedalboard, but it can be a powerful studio weapon as well, enabling the user to change tonal configurations instantly, to span a wide range of sounds for guitar, bass, keys and more. Never underestimate the power and will of the little guy, as this maroon treasure tells us all once more. We run through the gauntlet of settings in our demo below, so if you want to hear the Fatbee sing, please check it out. Not as flashy or over-the-top as some of the others in the Beetronics’ lineup, we’re fairly certain the Fatbee will find its palce in the hearts of overdrive enthusiasts the world over…
