Orange Amps Bax Bangeetar Guitar Pre-EQ

As impressive as their amps have always been, the crew at Orange have, especially in recent years, had a knack for conjuring up some fantastic effects pedals. The Orange Amps Bax Bangeetar Guitar Pre-EQ is a pedal, but is more of a machine masquerading as a pedal (and it has the girth to prove it). Not shy about its size or power, this mammoth boasts a unique and hugely versatile gain structure with extensive EQ controls. You can dial in an enormous range of overdriven and distorted tones, delivered with a feel and responsiveness rarely found in pedals, along with pristine boost and tone-shaping enhancement qualities.

An entirely new design, the Bax Bangeetar is an awesome clean boost or low gain driver, highly receptive to different guitar and pickup combinations. As the gain increases, you’ll go from classic Orange crunch and vintage rhythm tones, through to soaring leads and right up to genuinely insane, bonkers levels of distortion. ‘Volume’ sets your overall output level (no shortage here), ‘Top’ & ‘Bottom’ set your base EQ and ‘Gain’ controls the amount of distortion present in your signal.

For further sonic molding, the ‘Mid’, ‘Q’ and ‘Freq’ parameters all work together to form a cohesive, balanced and brilliant attack on your original signal, boosting, shaping and enhancing it beyond what you thought was possible. ‘Mid’ controls the midrange response, ‘Q’ controls the range of the mid-frequencies affected by the ‘Mid’ knob, and ‘Freq’ moves the center of the mid-frequency from low-to-high (140Hz to 7.6kHz). The Bax Bangeetar distorts and behaves just like their amps, with natural-sounding and controllable breakup, and delivers serious punch with no stifling compression.

There’s also a Boost channel, adding a full-bodied BOOM to your Bax Bangeetar settings. Here, the amount of boost is determined by where the Volume knob is set, and automatically reduces when the volume starts to get too high, keeping a nice, even balance of sound. This monster also features ultra-transparent buffered bypass, and an internal doubling charge pump that boosts the voltage from 9v to 18v. Plus, in addition to the regular Amp output, there’s a Cab Sim output, which allows you to plug directly into mixers, PAs, recording consoles and more.

Powerful? Check. Rig-enhancing? Fo sho. Big and bold? Absolutely. If you’ve adopted a new outlook that includes an all-mini pedal board, the Bax Bangeetar might not be the one for you. If size doesn’t matter (hehe) and you’ve got the space, this is one of the finest tone-shapers you’ll ever come across. Can’t thank Orange Amps enough for letting us take a crack at this guy – we’ve got a fairly in-depth demo for you below, where we try to run through a good chunk of settings, trying to showcase what the Bax can do. Since you’ve got the time, why not stick around til the end of the video, then get out and grab one for yourself…
