For whatever reason, we’ve had a plethora of distortion pedals to review and demo lately, which suits us just fine. They’re loud, in your face and full of rock and roll, and we can’t get enough of ’em. Today’s bodacious, bombastic beauty comes to us from Teisco, and is simply called Distortion, although there’s nothing simple about it. Loaded with options and full of rage, it’ll get your day started off in the right direction.
Teeming with attitude and strong British flavor, the Distortion boasts 5 knobs and 2 toggles for control over your sound. This Distortion is also made up of two independent circuits, each controllable via their own footswitch. The left side features Level, Gain, Tone and Presence (ultra-high frequency shaper) controls, allowing you to dial in your distortion tone.
There are a couple of toggle switches on this side as well. The Muscle switch adds in another gain stage to the distortion channel, producing more saturation and grit. The Tight switch, when up, shelves off some of the low end and tightens up your overall tone. These two are fun to experiment with, and play off the settings of the other parameters for a wide spectrum of sounds to explore.
Finally, there’s the More side, which gives you a clean(ish) boost, up to +20dB, and some additional tone-sweetener. It can be used as a gain boost before the distortion, or post-drive as a volume boost. The Distortion from Teisco is all about high gain, searing leads and classic rock riffs, and it shows. Built in a premium zinc housing for extra toughness, it’ll keep up with any tour and any musical style with ease. Thanks to the folks at Teisco – we’ll have some more gear from them soon, but while you wait, be sure to check out our demo video below, and subscribe on YouTube!
