The Pill Analog Stereo Ducking Delay Effect Pedal

Mmmmmm…..Ducking. That’s the subject of today’s lesson, kids! This is a first for us, too, so we’re going tackle this thing together. Today’s pedal, The Pill, is an Analog Stereo Ducking Effect, brought to us all the way from Switzerland (might be our first Swiss pedal, too). This simple but crazy machine uses a trigger input and either Mono or Stereo Input and Outputs to produce a sound that not quite like others we’ve encountered. This will all make sense, we promise…

So….we used a Korg Monotribe, which is a drum/synthesizer machine with a ton of sounds, and played a steady drum beat which was fed into the Trigger input on The Pill. Basically, the effect on the input audio is based on what is coming through the Trigger input, so the drum beat’s tempo pulses and “ducks” your audio, which in this case is a PRS CE 24 fed through a Meris Mercury7 Reverb pedal. As the tempo on the Monotribe is increased, the ducking becomes faster and more prominent as well, and the overall intensity is affected by the “T” knob, which lets you quickly adjusts to fit your rig. Two other controls are present here as well: Release sets the duration of the ducking, from short to long, while Depth sets the ducking volume level. All three of these controls interact with each other, creating a slew of new and experimental sounds for anyone that like to, well, experiment.

Creating organic, warm sounds, The Pill Analog Ducking pedal gives any setup more depth, and makes the groove the focus. You can use it with guitars, synths, laptops and more, and the trigger can be set with drum machines, contact mics, even a real kick drum if you want to get wicked fancy. Made for musicians by a musician, it is analog, stereo and true bypass, and is a musical experimenter’s dream come true. Thanks so much to David and all at The Pill for sending this effects pedal our way, and making us re-imagine what making music can be like.
