While a good compressor pedal might not be everyone’s cup o’ tea, we here at Pedal of the Day LOVE ’em, and are always excited when a new one comes through the shop. We dig it even more if it’s from our friends at Orange Amps, who are always redefining the way we all should look at and approach music, through effects, amps and more. Their newest compressor offering is the Kongpressor, a Class A effect that helps to either fine tune or radically alter your dynamics and tone. Able to be used in all different parts of any rig, this is one squishy beast that can be essential to any musical setup you’ve got.
Some compressors have very few controls, while some studio pieces have a TON of control options for you to choose from. The Kongpressor keeps it simple but option-laden, with 5 knobs to control your sound with. Volume sets your Output level, while Squash sets the amount of compression present. Chime acts as a treble control, either boosting or cutting your higher frequencies, for dialing in that perfect sound with your particular rig. The Release and Attack knobs both range from Fast to Slow settings, with Release setting the compression release time, and Attack setting the compression attack time.
You want the funk? You’ve GOT the funk! Sounding great at the front of your chain, after your drive/dirt section or even in your amp’s FX loop, the Kongpressor is a versatile compressor, an always-on necessity, without being overbearing or hard to dial in. It runs at the usual 9V, but can also be run at 12V if you’re so inclined, which increases the headroom and gives you more output volume.
