As is evidenced by our series on YouTube, The Klone Wars, we love a good Klon clone here at Pedal of the Day. We’ve had many such a pedal come through the office, but today’s effect has a special feature not often added into this mystical enigma of a pedal. It looks killer, it sounds killer – lets have a look-see at the Klone from 68 Pedals.
The Drive, Treble and Volume controls are present here, as they have to be to warrant a klone, but there’s more to this silver fox than meets the….ear. What make it special is that there is a dipswitch inside that lets you select from 2 modes. In the Up position, you have a 1n34a Germanium Diode, which represents the original style and sound of a Klon. In the Down position, you get a BAT41 Diode, which produces sounds reminiscent of the Arc Klone. Both are extremely useful modes, capturing the essence and power of the Klon in all its glory.
As we have recently discovered 68 Pedals, and had the chance to check out their clone of another popular purple dual overdrive, i.e. their King of Clone, we were stoked to see what they could do with a mythical beast circuit and enclosure. Needless to say, they passed the test with flying colors. Don’t believe us? Then see and hear for yourself in the demo video below, then head over to their Reverb.com shop to snag one of these guys for about $100, which is just a titch less expensive than a Klon, which are now going for upwards of $2,000. Save some money, get a great pedal and have a couple of fantastic sonic options as well – what more could you want?
