Industrialectric Generator 7446 Fuzz Tremolo Ring Modulator

Ring modulators have been often intriguing, sometimes frustrating effects that, if nothing else, always take you on a musical journey of some kind, whether you want them to or not. When you start mixing in fuzz, tremolo, gates and synths with a ring mod, it all really hits the fan, and your brain must adjust accordingly. Today’s pedal is a true face melter, a device of such force and sheer power that it was, at times, difficult to tame, but the adventure was definitely the reward. The Generator 7446 from Industrialectric is kind of hard to explain…but let’s see if we can get close.

At it’s surface, the Generator 7446 is a big box with a bunch of knobs and switches on it, and you have no idea what it’s going to do until you plug it in. Then, you have even less of an idea, and you find yourself trying to mop your brain up off of the ground. In short, it’s a thick and gated, modulated fuzz, with a square wave hard tremolo, plus a hyper modulating ring mod, and add in a stable PLL synth, just for fun. The parameters can be controlled via a passive expression pedal, for hands-free, on-the-fly sonic manipulation, and there’s even an LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) in the bottom center of the enclosure. With this, you use your hand or foot to sweep through all the modes and sounds the Generator 7446 has to offer, controlling them with, yes, LIGHT.

Once again, not an easy pedal to describe, so we want to let our demo video below fill you in on the rest. We’ve attempted to try and show you a small portion of what the 7446 is capable of, but this one is an experimenter’s dream, and one that needs to be experienced in person to really harness and accept its power. We used a guitar for this demonstration, but the Generator 7446 seems like it would play nicely with bass, keys, drum machines and more. If you’ve got a dad rock blues bar gig scheduled in the next couple of weeks, you might want to think about leaving this guy at home. But if you want to get uber-creative, super loud and wicked noisy, this is the pedal you need immediately. Cheers to the Industrialectric crew for the creation of a wonderful machine that will keep you on your toes and get the musical juices a’flowin’ – check out their website for more info, and have a great weekend, everybody!
