They may be small in size, but the lineup of space-saving effects from the crew over at CNZ Audio have been a pleasure to peruse each time we’ve had them come through the shop. Overdrives, delays, modulation and more – these guys have an inexpensive answer for everything you need. The next one we’re going to look into today is the SPH-20 Phaser, a simple one knob, one toggle concoction that produces some excellent sounds that are out of this world.
As you can see, there’s not much to figuring out how to work this Phaser, but the keys lie in the nuances of the lone dial. It controls the Speed, or Rate, of the phase shifting sound, from a smooth, gentle flow that enhances your sound, up to a wild, fast, crazy ride into the outer reaches of space. The toggle switch lets you choose between Vintage and Modern settings, each one containing its own set of nuances to explore and revel in. Looks can certainly be deceiving, as is evident by the SPH-20, but you’ll have a blast dialing in your perfect phase tone.
Measuring a mere 3.75″ x 1.77″ x1.9″, the SPH-20 Phaser, along with a majority of the CNZ lineup, are great space savers on any pedalboard. The all-metal enclosure makes sure it will take a licking and keep on ticking, and the small 10mA power ensures your other pedals will play nicely with it as well. If you’re looking for a bunch of bells and whistles in your phaser, you’ve come to the wrong place. If you like a great-sounding, inexpensive piece of gear you can rely on, this guy is for you. Thanks again to CNZ Audio – be sure to head to their site for more of their pedals, read the reviews we’ve done so far right here on our site and hear this mini monster in action in our demo video below!
