It’s always an interesting scene when we open up a package sent from our pal Marc-Eric Gagnon at Stonefly Effects. Over the least few years, we’ve had the opportunity to peruse devices such as the Grizzly Fuzz, Two Headed Werewolf Fuzz and the Switchblade Fuzz (seeing a pattern yet?). The latest FUZZ creation from our friends to the North in Quebec is the Alien Sasquatch, another killer effect with a name to match. This 3-knob fuzz pedal is hiding a LOT inside it’s relatively small enclosure and seemingly simple control section – let’s see what Stonefly has up their sleeves this time around…
A take on the RARE Earth Sound Research Graphic Fuzz, the Alien Sasquatch is the first PCB build from Stonefly, with each one being handmade and using a socketed UA74ITC chip inside. The two main knobs on the front face are Filter and Level, and there’s a third knob hidden on the right side of the pedal. This is the Offset Null control, which slowly alters the sound of the circuit as you turn it clockwise. It’s also an On/Off switch in the upper position, so when it clicks, you’re back in Stock mode. This is a very subtle control, so it’s fun to experiment with it in small increments, as it plays off of the Filter knob’s settings for a wild, fuzzy experience.
As you’ll see and hear in our demo below, this thing is loud and awesome, and really has a unique fuzz sound. Like all of Stonefly’s pedals, the artwork is the first thing to grab you, and the Alien Sasquatch is no different, with the design this time around by Wildner Lima from Brazil. IF you’re ready, buckle up and go for a smooth and distorted ride by diving right in (don’t forget to subscribe, too!). As for the availability of these pedals, you’ll have to contact Marc-Eric, as we’re not sure how many were produced or are for sale, so get on it quick! Be sure to follow Stonefly Effects on Facebook and Instagram, and have a great weekend, everybody!
