With access to a seemingly endless supply of incredible vintage pedals, our friends at JHS have revamped yet another long-lost, obscure and intriguing effect, all while putting their own unique spin on it, as usual. Based on the strange and rarely talked-about Boss FA-1 FET Preamp, the Clover is a Preamp EQ Boost, a true tone-shaper / always on / can’t-live-without-it pedal that will really sculpt and mold your sound. Top o’ the mornin’, let’s check this one out!
As you can probably guess, Volume sets the overall output level. There’s a 3 section Mode knob as well, which allows you to choose from No EQ, No Mids or Full EQ. As you can see underneath, there’s a 3-knob EQ control section, with Bass, Middle and Treble controls.
The No EQ mode makes the Clover act like a Boost pedal, with the only control utilized being the Volume. No Mids takes the midrange out of the tone, letting you dial in the Bass and Treble frequencies as needed. Finally, Full EQ introduces the Mids back into the mix, providing a full-bodied, tone-shaping extravaganza for all of your auditory desires.
In case you missed it, too, the Clover is BRIGHT GREEN, making it easy to see and a quick conversation starter as well. There’s even an XLR Output built-in on the side, allowing it to to be used as an acoustic or bass preamp. The best part? You can use the 1/4″ AND XLR outs simultaneously, to send to a sound board/interface and an amplifier at the same time. Just another small but important detail that Josh and the JHS Pedals’ crew never miss.
