Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to play and enjoy some wonderful 3-knob delay pedals, such as the TC Prophet, the Cusack Music TME, the Deadbeat Sound Delay Lay Lay, the Guyatone MD2 and the Ninevolt Relaxing Walrus, just to name a few. Today’s pedal is a fine addition to this club, and we’re glad it made the long trek from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Slow Pick Analog Delay comes to us from XFX Boutique, and features all the warmth and depth you’d expect from this kind of echo.
The Slow Pick Analog Delay (SPD-001) is fully analog, using a ‘bucket brigade device’ chip to deliver your typical analog delay range, from 10ms to 580ms. The three-knob layout controls Delay, Level and Repeat, the latter of which will produce some self-oscillation when almost or fully maxed. With the repeats at about 3:00, the echoes turn into almost a loop, stretching out beyond normal, but not getting into super crazy town, for a nice balance between sanity and chaotic madness.
True bypass, hand-built and housed inside a heavy-duty metal enclosure, this delay looks, feels and sounds like it should cost a lot more. It’s also bright purple, so it will show up on the darkest of stages, and make for a fine conversation starter between sets at your next gig. There aren’t a ton of pedals yet in the XFX Boutique arsenal, but if this is an indication of what’s to come, consider us stoked. Be sure to check out their Reverb page for all their releases, and take a look and listen to the Slow Pick in action in our demo video below!
