Boss DD-3T Digital Delay

It’s always an exciting time when Boss releases new delay pedals, as they’ve been at the forefront of the genre for decades now. We recently got a chance to check out one of their latest, the DD-8, which was filled with new options and sonic adventure around every corner. Today, we’re going to take a look at another digital delay they released at the same time, the DD-3T. Although it’s an updated version of a true industry standard in effects pedals, this guy still keeps the classic DD-3 sound alive and kicking.

As with the original DD-3, the DD-3T features four control knobs: Effects Level, Feedback, Delay Time and Mode. The delay modes remain the same, with Short (12.5 ms – 50 ms), Medium (50 ms – 200 ms) and Long (200 ms – 800 ms) giving you those familiar tones you’ve been craving for years. The DD-3T also boasts a Short Loop mode, which is simply a re-naming of the Hold mode on the DD-3, allowing you to capture any sound up to 800 ms long and repeat it.

As far as new additions to the functionality are concerned, the DD-3T has first and foremost moved the Direct Out jack over to the left hand side of the pedal, making connections and routing that much easier. There’s also a Tempo jack, which allows you to hook up an external tap switch to set your delay time on the fly, and hands-free. No need to worry if you don’t have one of these switches, though: the DD-3T also has built-in tap abilities. Just hold down the onboard switch for 2 seconds in order to toggle between Bypass and Tap Tempo modes, then set your time accordingly. Also in Tap mode, you can use the Mode knob to set your tap subdivision, choosing from Quarter-Note Triplet, Dotted-Eighth Note or Quarter Note.

Sound-wise, the circuitry is exactly the same as the DD-3, so there’s no fear of losing any of that warm, round, iconic delay tone you’ve had since 1986. You get the same sounds with some updated functions and a bit more control, all while basking in the glow of some tasty modern repeats. A new classic in the making, the DD-3T is an excellent addition (or upgrade) to any pedalboard, rig or studio you’ve got. Thanks to the crew at Boss once again for letting us check out another of their marvelous creations – more to come in 2020, for sure, but for now, sit back, relax and enjoy our demo video below of this wonderful delay machine….and, once again, Happy New Year!
