Speaking of love and happiness, we’ve got a monster overdrive for you on this wonderful New Year’s Day, one that will bring a smile to your face and put some joy in your heart. The R-403 Vintage Overdrive arrives to usher in 2020 from our friends at Big Joe Stomp Box Company, and is sure to start the year off right, at least as far as effects pedals are concerned 😉
The R-403 features a simple control section, but the tones it creates are reminiscent of vintage tube amps pushed to their limit. The Output, Gain and Presence knobs give you a wide range of sounds to work with and explore, conjuring up warm, syrupy tube-like dynamics, along with all the overdrive you can handle. There’s a Shape toggle switch, too, which provides you with additional low end boost, similar to a close-miked amplifier tone.
Extremely transparent and responsive, the R-403 Vintage Overdrive relies heavily on your pick attack for its tonal production, making it a key ingredient in fingerpicking, chordal work and wicked rad solos as well. It can run at 9V or 18V, if you’re needing a bit more headroom and clarity in your signal, and is housed as always in the tough-as-nails enclosures that Big Joe has become known for.
