GFI System Specular Tempus Reverb Delay

Over the years here at Pedal of the Day, we’ve had the opportunity to check out some of the marvelous pedals from GFI System, including all three versions of their Clockwork Delay, and the awesome Specular 2 Reverb. Taking things up a notch, they released the Specular Tempus, a reverb/delay combination with more features than you’ll know what to do with, and more incredible sounds than you’ll be able to count. Featuring 36 algorithms and 32 presets, there’s not too much this powerhouse of a machine can’t do.

The 36 algorithms are made up of 13 Reverbs, 17 Delay and 8 Combination settings. Just about everything you could want from these two genres is available, including Room, Shimmer, Vortex, Infinity, Analog, Dual Stereo and many, many more. Speaking of Stereo, the Specular Tempus boasts Stereo Inputs and Outputs, making it the perfect vehicle for delivering on any and all musical setups you can think to throw at it, for a customized and dialed-in rig. Blend, Decay/Time, Param and Intensity/Repeats make up the control section, used to set reverb and delay settings in real time, and control them for saving your favorite presets.

The Presets are organized into 4 pages, with each of those containing 4 banks, and each of those housing 2 patches: A & B. While you CAN operate and scroll through the presets and banks on the Specular Tempus itself, it’s MUCH easier if you splurge and get the optional Triple Switch, which plugs into the Aux jack, and lets you easily do Bank Up / Down, Page-Up, Tap Tempo, select your favorite Preset, Auto-Swell, Momentary-A and Momentary-B functionality AND choose Warp-Dotted, Warp-Half or Warp-Triplets.

There’s a USB port that can be used to hook up your pedal to your computer, allowing for preset adjustments, MIDI connectivity, firmware updates and more. An Effects Loop is even available (on MOST algorithms), via 1/8″ sockets on the top panel, which lets you add other effects onto the repeats of the Specular Tempus. Features like Auto-Swell, Subdivision selection, Kill-Dry and more are also available, making this one of the more versatile and options-laden reverb and delay machines we’ve ever encountered….EVER.

The bright LED screen makes it easy to see what you’re editing, and once you read the manual and figure out this complex but fairly user-friendly unit works, you’ll be flying around editing sounds, storing presets and changing your overall sound in no time. Not sure how the GFI System geniuses are going to top this one, but while we’re all waiting, be sure to check out our demo video below – don’t forget to watch the entire thing to see all that this amazing pedal can do, and feel free to Subscribe if you are enjoying what we’re doing!
