Red Witch Pedals Synthotron II Synth Filter Sample Hold

We’ve always admired the originality and creativity the effects produced by Red Witch Pedals have, so we’re excited on this lovely Saturday to bring you their latest and greatest creation. A couple of years back, we we privileged enough to review and demo the Synthotron, a new and powerful Synth/Filter pedal, which we absolutely loved. Today, we’re going to check out the second iteration of this machine, the Synthotron II, an analog synth filter sample hold mixture that takes everything about the first model and launches it into high gear.

Let’s dive in and check out the Synth side, shall we? The newly colored Green and Yellow boxes hold the controls for the first and second oscillators found in the Synthotron II, with controls for determining the pitch of the oscillator note, the volume level of each oscillator in the mix and either a short of long decay time for each individual oscillator as well. The Orange box holds controls for turning the tremolo function on or off, with a Velocity knob for setting the speed of the tremolo. There’s also a Dry knob in this section, which is used for blending in your instrument’s original dry signal, for some added clarity.

The Red box sets the controls for the Filter section, utilizing a toggle switch that goes between Envelope Filter and Sample Hold modes for a wide array of sounds. The Range controls sets the sweep for the envelope, and only works with the Filter section, while the Velocity control sets the speed of the Sample Hold, and only works in that particular mode as well. This section is filled with gooey, dripping funk, great for sending your bass or guitar back a couple of decades to the Land of Soul and Power. Click both of the individual effects’ footswitches on at the same time, and hold on to your hats, ’cause it’s about to get insane (in the best way, though, trust us).

An all-analog device, the Synthotron II is also monophonic, tracking one note at a time. Don’t be scared to test out some chords or quick note runs, though, as these will produce some otherworldly sounds, and open up the possibilities for what you can achieve musically with this effect. Lots to be seen and heard here, folks, so get to watching our demo below for the awesomeness that is the Synthotron II Synth Filter Sample Hold. Also, in case you still don’t follow us on social media, we’ve teamed up with Red Witch Pedals to offer you FREE SHIPPING when you order one of these from their store and use the promo code PEDALOFTHEDAYRW, so if you dig what you hear, be sure to use that to our advantage. We loved this pedal the first time around, and we love it even more now – cheers to all at Red Witch for somehow improving on an instant classic – lots of noises to be created with this one, we thinks……
