AboveGroundFX Tone Control Booster

Sometimes, we stumble across a company that doesn’t have a lot of information pertaining to them on the old interwebs, making it a tricky puzzle as to if they’re still in business or not. Today’s pedal comes to us from AboveGroundFX, whose pedals are available at Vintage King, but who don’t appear to have a social media presence or an updated website to their name. Regardless, the Tone Control Booster is a nice little pedal, offering up some tasty EQ tones and a nice boost to boot – let’s see what this little guy can do!

Using a discrete, two-transistor circuit, the Tone Control Booster is incredibly amp-like in its tonal quality and feel, due to the Shelving Control Filter, instead of using the usual parametric variety. Top, Bottom and Volume controls make it a cinch to use, and can easily become a plug-and-play pedal for anyone’s setup. Modifying the signal content just outside the fundamental frequencies of the guitar in a soft response curve, it becomes super-easy to dial in the amount of harmonics and sub-harmonics you want, greatly expanding the tonal possibilities of any guitar.

Featuring a +15dB-18dB of boost within the audio spectrum, the Tone Control Booster from AboveGroundFX can alter the tone and boost output when paired with another pedal or pedal chain, or boost the bejeezus out of your amp’s input. Whether AboveGroundFX is still in existence remains a bit of a mystery, but their pedals are extremely affordable (less than $100) and there are still a few left out there to snatch up. Nothing super-fancy here, just a nice tonal addition to your sound that can cut through the mix and make your guitar sparkle in all the very best ways you can imagine.
