Effects pedals that house more than one effect are always good for an experimental day, week or year. The mix of Overdrive and Fuzz in one pedal, however, doesn’t seem to appear all that much, so we couldn’t wait to check out the Royal Jelly from Beetronics. Running two circuits in parallel and giving you the ability to blend them together as you see fit, this powerhouse of a pedal brings the best of two worlds together, for inspiration and face melting abound.
The Royal Jelly features two preset sides: Queen and King. Each of these sides features an Overdrive/Fuzz control knob, with full OD to the left, Fuzz to the right, and a sweet blending of the two at numerous intervals along the way. This creates the opportunity to have two distinct sounds right at your feet, and makes for a smooth, natural transition between the settings. A master Volume control sets your overall Output level, while the Dry knob allows you to blends your original dry signal with the Royal Jelly‘s effects.
There’s a wonderful EQ section at work here, too: the Lo knob features 10dB of Cut/Boost at 80Hz, while the Hi knob does the same at 2KHz. This lets you distinctly dial in your tone in many different ways, opening up and expanding the sonic possibilities the Royal Jelly provides with ease. There’s even a 3rd footswitch, Buzz, that adds high end frequency to the fuzz circuit, creating another dimension of sound inside this multi-faceted beast.
Able to fit right in with guitar, bass, drums, synth or anything else in the studio, the Royal Jelly gives you a ton of options, killer tones and a new approach to playing and songwriting, all in one convenient box. The plethora of parameters allow you to get the perfect sound for YOU, with precise settings and a great equalization portion for those key tweaks that make up any player’s unique sonic palette.
