We decided we’d shake things up a bit here at Pedal of the Day today, and bring you a piece of gear that isn’t a pedal at all. The Asphalt TAR-20G is a miniature guitar amplifier from our friends at Valeton, and we’re going to take you through how it works, and can enhance your tone. Small and light but mighty and boasting some nice options, let’s check out this nifty little amp, shall we?
Compact and not heavy are the first things you notice about the TAR-20G. Plug into it, and you’ll notice the smooth tones it produces instantly as well. The 20W output doesn’t make it the loudest beast in the land, but it can keep up pretty well just the same. A super wide-ranged Gain control and a flexible 3-band EQ make it an excellent tone machine, easily gliding from pristine, glassy clean to huge, cranked leads.
An AUX IN jack lets you jam along to your favorite tunes, while the Phones jack features a built-in cab simulator, for rocking loud in your headphones, but silently to everyone around you. The Asphalt TAR-20G will run at either 8 or 16 ohm, providing you with options for your output signal. There’s an on-board Reverb knob to dial in as much ambience as you see fit, and the Effects Loop on the back lets you integrate more of your favorite effects seamlessly.
Inexpensive but bold, lightweight but surprisingly powerful, simple but full of options. The Asphalt TAR-20G takes mini amplification up to the next level, providing a wide spectrum of tonal flavors and accessibility unlike any other mini we’ve seen. Hats off to Valeton for another great mini piece of gear (we recently checked out their Coral CRL-1 MDR Modulation Delay Reverb, too) – be sure to check out their website for more wee-sized items, and listen to the TAR-20G in action in our demo video below!
