There’s no shortage of amazing effects coming out of the Keeley Electronics camp, as they have been for close to 2 decades now, and we always love it when something new comes through the office. While the past couple of years have seen bigger, more option-filled pedals like the Dark Side, Aria, Super Mod Workstation and more, sometimes you just need a killer overdrive pedal to get you in the right mood, and spark some creativity in your playing. The 1962x is a British overdrive pedal that gives you some classic Bluesbreaker-type tones, crafted using precision components and only the finest workmanship, as you’d of course expect from Robert and his team….
Gain, Treble and Boost make up the simple control section on the 1962x, leading to a wide range of British black-and-gold amplifier sounds throughout the spectrum of these parameters. There’s more to this pedal, however, in the form of a teeny, tiny toggle switch. Select KT88 to enter into a high headroom boost mode, or go with KT66 for your standard overdrive sound. The circuit has been wrapped in Keeley’s own Katana Boost, creating preamp and output tube distortion characteristics with ease. The KT88 mode inserts a MOSFET transistor into the clipping stage, making an already powerful drive tone beefed up, for higher output and a meatier overall sound.
The 1962x also plays great with others, especially Klons (or Klones, if you’re like most players), creating fat, rich lead tones for days. Tons of sustain here, coupled with a killer graphic to emulate some vintage amps to add to the nostalgia and force of this absolute beast of a drive. A real amp in a box effect, this one will put a smile on your face the moment you engage it, and for years to come afterwards.
