Here’s the rub: we really dig us some pedals from Adventure Audio. If for nothing else than being rabid Stranger Things fans, the Demogorgon Fuzz Tremolo Reverb was one of our favorite pedals pretty much EVER, and the Dream Reaper Fuzz Mod Machine was no slouch itself. That said, we were of course super-stoked to check out the Glacial Zenith II, an overdrive, EQ and boost all wrapped into one pedal, with a myriad of order and tonal options, just waiting to be unleashed in our studio.
The top row of the Glacial Zenith is the EQ section, featuring High (2.9kHz), Mid (830Hz) and Low (250Hz) controls. This 3-band equalizer gives you a wide range of tones to play with, setting your sound to the exact specs you’ve only dreamed of. The Drive knob adds in grit, dirt and chaos, and a Volume knob controls the overall output.
There are a number of toggle switches here as well, which dynamically change the presence of the Glacial Zenith II. Drive → EQ is the classic order you’ll find on most dirt pedals, as the EQ directly shapes the sound coming out of your distortion stage. Conversely, EQ → Drive gives more control over the actual texture of the dirt sound, as you’re shaping your guitar’s tone before it gets dirty. There’s also a Pre Drive Toggle, which lets you to put the Boost before or after the EQ/Drive. If you place it after (right position), it will increase the output volume; place it before (left position) and you can slam the Drive even harder, increasing the distortion.
“Much like a real glacier, the many parts of the Glacial Zenith II are able to shift past one another, allowing the pedal to take many forms.” We couldn’t agree more. This is an all-in-one pedal that will shape your sound, balance the force and twist your tone into a mean, effective and brilliant sonic behemoth. Cheers to the Adventure Audio crew once again, as they’ve created a searing, scorching and blistering effect that is tame and wild simultaneously, producing excellent results.
